My Answers to the Colbert Questionert—You Can Take it Too

I’m working on a set of interview questions regarding how women feel about growing older. And while I was procrastinating, I ran across this fun questionnaire, courtesy of Steven Colbert host of “The Late Show”. During Covid, Stephen Colbert asked his guests these 15 quirky questions designed to “cover the full spectrum of the human experience.” I thought I’d give it a go, and worry about my own questionnaire another time.

Here are my answers:

Sparkling!

Best Sandwich? Grilled cheddar cheese and tomato on sourdough bread.

What’s one thing you own you should really throw out? Some naughty polaroid pics Liam and I took back when we were dating.

What’s the scariest animal? Big Foot!

Apples or Oranges? I live in Florida half the year so I should say oranges. But I love apples and try to eat one a day. They’re good for reducing cholesterol.

Have you ever asked someone for their autograph? Yes. When I was 15 I visited my friend Cindy who had moved to Los Angeles and we hiked into the Santa Monica Hills to the M*A*S*H set where they were filming an episode. We asked Alan Alda for his autograph and he was very nice about it. But I felt weird about bothering him and have never done it again.

What do you think happens when we die? We realize what all the crazy stuff in our life meant and our souls carry on in a different dimension.

Favorite action movie? Does Princess Bride count? Okay, Top Gun.

Favorite smell? A tropical ocean breeze.

Least favorite smell? Urine on public transit.

Exercise: worth it? Yes, if it involves scoring points, walking in nature or dancing. Otherwise, nah.

Flat or sparkling? Sparkling, especially a Mango Orange Spindrift.

Most used app on your phone? Messages and Instagram are neck-and-neck.

You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it? “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Diana Ross. Sung into a hairbrush.

What number am I thinking of? 1111

Describe the rest of your life in five words? Celebrating who I am now.

Do you feel like you know me better now? I hope so! Take the quiz yourself and come back and share an answer or two. Also, I’ve discovered the Colbert Questionert makes for lively dinner party conversation. The questions are a nice mix of shallow and deep so everybody feels comfortable chiming in.
